Dermapen Microneedling

Dermapen is an automated micro-needling device that works to encourage skin rejuvenation by stimulating the body’s natural healing response. It is used at our Melbourne clinic to address the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, and uneven skin tone or texture.

Dermapen features a disposable tip cartridge made up of 12 micro-needles that can be adjusted for tip depth, allowing for fine precision control when administering the treatment. This advanced, patented technology makes Dermapen one of the top micro-needling options available.

SUITABLE FOR

Dermapen is suitable for all skin types and may be used on the body, face, scalp, and intimate areas. It can be used to address the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Pigmentation
  • Skin laxity

Dermapen is not suitable for patients with certain skin conditions, such as severe (stage IV) acne or those who have a history of keloid scars. Your dermal clinician will assess your suitability for the treatment at the beginning of any appointment.

HOW DOES DERMAPEN WORK?

As we age, the production of collagen and elastin in the skin diminishes, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

Dermapen uses micro-needles to penetrate vertically into the skin in a ‘stamping’ motion. This creates invisible micro-injuries, stimulating the skin’s natural healing response and causing it to increase the production of collagen and elastin. As these micro-injuries recover, the skin becomes refreshed and rejuvenated through the body’s own natural healing processes, leading to improvements in tone and texture. Because the body has been induced to heal itself, the results can last for a long time.

Dermapen’s patented design optimises needle arrangement and tip depth control to help deliver best results. The tip is disposable to ensure sterility and effectiveness.

YOUR TREATMENT WITH US

When you come to Liberty Belle’s Melbourne clinic for your Dermapen treatment, you will first receive an in-depth consult. One of our trained dermal clinicians will assess your suitability and devise a treatment plan depending on your desired outcome and needs.

Your clinician will administer the treatment by passing the patented Dermapen tip over the treatment area. You may experience some discomfort at this stage, but your clinician will take steps to minimise this. Depending on the area being treated, Dermapen treatments can take anywhere between twenty minutes to two hours, but most appointments typically last an hour.

Most patients see a noticeable difference after one treatment. Additional treatments at our Melbourne clinic may be necessary depending on your desired outcomes.

WHAT DOES DERMAPEN HELP TO TREAT?

Dermapen can address:

  • Fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet
  • Scars, including surgical and acne scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Pigmentation
  • Skin laxity

Dermapen is also an option for those seeking general skin rejuvenation or a more refreshed appearance.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

You can expect to see changes in the skin after the first treatment, however multiple treatments are advised. Downtime lasts 2-3 days, with improvements in the skin’s tone and texture becoming apparent around a week after the treatment. Collagen growth is a slow process, and gradual improvements continue for several weeks.

Your skin should look and feel smoother and you will notice a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation. Depending on your age, skin condition and lifestyle, Dermapen results can last from months to years.

WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT BENEFITS?

Through the stimulation of collagen and elastin production, treatment benefits of Dermapen can include:

  • Reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improvement of skin tone and texture
  • Improved or faded appearance of scars
  • Improved or faded appearance of stretch marks
  • Reduction in the appearance of pigmentation
  • Overall skin rejuvenation

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

In the 36-48 hours following treatment, your skin will look and feel as if it is mildly sunburnt. Your dermal clinician may provide or recommend certain creams or sun protection for at-home care. Some flaking and itchiness may occur.

It is important that you do not interfere with the skin’s healing process in the initial stage. Avoid cleansing for a minimum of 12 hours post treatment and avoid wearing makeup for a minimum of 24 hours. For a minimum of 48 hours after the procedure, you should also avoid the following:

  • Intensive cardio or gym regimens
  • Direct UV exposure (sun or solariums)
  • Spray tans
  • Excessively hot showers or saunas
  • Swimming in the ocean or chlorinated pools
  • Picking at or otherwise aggravating the skin

Once initial redness has subsided, you will notice a gradual improvement in the skin’s appearance over the course of several weeks as your skin repairs and rejuvenates itself.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number of Dermapen treatments you will need depends on the area being treated and your desired outcome. Some patients see improvement after a single treatment, while others require multiple treatments. Scar reduction typically requires multiple treatments, while those seeking general rejuvenation may be satisfied with one. When repeat treatments are needed, they are usually performed 4-8 weeks apart.
